A small, erect, unbranched or shortly-branched, annual, tropical evergreen plant; plant 45–60 cm. (18–24 in) height. Whole plant is sticky to the touch due to the presence of reddish, glandular hairs covering the stem; branched stem with opposite, narrow, oblong, up to 7 cm long leaves; The flowers are tubular, dark-lilac or cherry-red, with six petals. The two upper petals are large and ear-shaped, while the others are quite small.
