Lofty trees, to 25 m high, bole straight; bark 12-14 mm thick, mottled with yellow brown and white, smooth; blaze pink. Leaves simple, alternate, estipulate; petiole 6-12 mm, stout, grooved above, glabrous; lamina 6-15 x 3.7-5 cm, elliptic, elliptic-oblong, elliptic-acuminate or oblong-lanceolate, base attenuate, cuneate, acute or obtuse, apex acuminate, margin entire, coriaceous glabrous; lateral nerves 4-5 pairs, pinnate, prominent, intercostae reticulate, faint. Flowers bisexual, 10-12 x 10-12 mm, white, fragrant, in axillary cymes; pedicel 5 mm long; calyx cupular, 5-6 toothed, not accrescent; petals 5-6, 6 x 1, puberulus outside, densely tomentose within; stamens 5-6, opposite to the petals at their base; filaments slender; anthers very small, globose, basifixed, the 2 cells dehiscing longitudinally; disc cup shaped, surrounding the base of the ovary; ovary superior, 1-celled, ovules 2-3, pendulous; style conical, stigma shortly lobed. Fruit a drupe, 10 x 15-18 mm, globose, surrounded by accrescent disc; stone crustaceous; seed pendulous.
