No clue about the id but I must say the pictures are really beautiful.

Please check for Astible rivularia (Saxifragaceae) and Aruncus dioicus (Rosaceae).

Thanks … for id hints.. I was trying to match my pics with any of Sorbaria sp. but could not get close to…
but I was confined only to Rosaceae.. I think Aruncus is a close choice..

Astilbe rivularis I hope
The two are often confused (I find several wrong images on the net), as leaves look similar, but Aruncus dioicus (syn: A. sylvester) has flowers with distinct petals, stamens numerous in number (15-30) and carpels 3. Astilbe rivularis has flowers without petals, stamens 5-9 in number and carpels only 2.

I have seen this plant at 8000 feet altitude in North Sikkim along the river Lachen Chu (Teesta). Highly valued there for its medicinal properties.

How can we say it is a fern?

The brownish scales at the base of frond, terminal bud curved like C (Circinate vernation) characteristic features of Fern.

Actually the pics are insufficient to say anything considerable..

I think, it is not a fern. Venation patter and joints are looking like that of angiosperms.

Please compare with the foliage of Astible rivularis (Saxifragaceae) and Aruncus dioicus (Rosaceae). It must be one of them.

This is indeed a Dicot and not at all a fern. It looks to me rather like an Astilbe or some related genus, but I don’t know Dicots. I have seen it around in the Himalaya, but don’t know what genus it is. Ah yes, you’ll find it in Polunin and Stainton’s Flowers of the Himalaya, page 466, perhaps Astilbe rivularis?

new to my recollections. never seen astible flower spike to droop. first for me to see it droop so. may be because it was growing on the side of the hill?
