Satyrium nepalense
Eravikulam WLS, near Munnar, Kerala, in the Nilgiris. First week of October 2018

so interesting to see how a species from Himalaya has crossed over to western ghats without any geographic connection.

thanks … it is rather interesting to see that but many species, seem to have done that

Not really many. Frankly NOTHING RIGHT NOW IS COMING TO MY MIND.
Of course there are few species that are very widespread and comes from himalaya down to plains and then to western ghats, but they are not really a himalayan element. Satyrium is certainly an Himalayan element.

wow .thanks for this information. i guess i had avian species in my mind.

what an interestin pic the second one esp. reminds me of some old pics from american schools/books: rocks, fence, flowers, grasses — and interesting conversation between you and …

Like your comment …! Nice images. Still blooming in Nepal. I shot some images today at Nagarkot. I shall post in a few days time.

Satyrium nepalense

Satyrium nepalense. Check the spur, if longer or upto 1cm then var. nepalense, if much shorter, then var. cilliatum.
var. cilliatum is known from Mussorie till now and people have not seen it recently.
I didn’t know … was in our group. Nice to see you here my friend. Enrich us with your knowledge 🙂

Really it would be difficult for ID as no inflorescence yet but wanted to give it a try !

This should either be a Habenaria or Platanthera. Cant confirm with these pics.

OK this is interesting. I would say this is Satyrium nepalense. Keep guessing how!!

Interesting, one of the few orchids I have photographed in flowering, from Chakrata and Chikmagalur.

If you notice, there are two spurs coming out of the bud. So it has to be only one genus from Western Himalaya and that is Satyrium and nepalense because the spur is too long.
