Near Shridi Sai baba Mandir, Ulsoor Natal Fig is a short fig tree, cultivated as a shrub, reaching around 3 m tall.
It has triangular (rarely obovate), thick, bright green leaves. It produces yellow figs that are eaten by birds.
The species name natalensis refers to the plants origin in Natal, a province in east South Africa.
It´s a very similar plant, possibly closely related to Ficus deltoidea (Delta Fig). They share the same leaf shape and round, yellow figs. An interesting feature of the Natal Fig is that the mid vein of the leaf forks just before reaching the tip. More. 4 images. Ficus taken at a plant nursery at Nasik. A potted plant around 3-4 feet in height.
Name given was ‘Ficus panda’.
Kindly confirm id. Ficus natalensis (the triangle leaf fig) i suppose… Ficus triangularis My question is both the species of Ficus stated above has triangle leaf how to differentiate? This does look like Ficus triangularis to me. … this is Ficus natalensis!! After checking on Google search, none of the pictures shown resemble Ficus natalensis. … please look at the stalk of fruit. It is much longer in traingularis and shorter in natalensis. I too think that this is F. natalensis Further, this would be a subspecies of F. natalensis, as … pointed out ie. Ficus natalensis subsp. leprieurii (Miq.) C.C.Berg. If so, F triangularis is a synonym of Ficus natalensis subsp. leprieurii (Miq.) C.C.Berg.
