This species is frequently found in blue pine forest associated with Rhododendron. This collection was made from Eagle Nest, West Kameng, 2500 m.
Leaves and female catkins are important for its identification. Leaf blades elliptic-oblong to elliptic, acute, entire, cuneate, subcoriaceous, green above, grey beneath, most glabrous on both the surfaces, glaucous beneath in young leaves; petioles slender.Female catkins very slender, cylindrical, spreading-pendulous, or curved upwards with age, lax, green or reddish-green.
