This one was shot from Chakrata area in September 2011, is this Physalis lagascae?

I think yes. Good photographs

Please also check with Physalis peruviana L.
Syn: Physalis edulis Sims.; Physalis peruviana L. var. latifolia (Lam.) Dunal ; Physalis latifolia Lam.; Physalis pubescens R. Br.

Thanks for the response … I think your id is considerable, we should rethink..

The following should help:
Physalis lagascae: annual; petiole 1-1.5 cm; leaf 2-3 × 1-1.5 cm, base cuneate, often oblique, pedicel ca. 5 mm, pubescent. Calyx 2.5-3 mm, fruiting calys 1-2 cm; corolla ca. 5 mm. anthers light yellow, 1-1.5 mm. Fruiting pedicel less than 1 cm, pendulous.berry globose, ca. 6 mm in diam.
Physalis peruviana: perennial, petiole 2-5 cm; leaf 6-15 × 4-10 cm, densely pubescent, base cordate, pedicel ca. 1.5 cm. Calyx 7-9 mm. fruiting calyx 2.5-4 cm; corolla 12-15 mm; filaments and anthers blue-purple; anthers 3-4 mm long. berry 1-1.5 cm in diam.
Besides anthers and the leaf size suggest P. peruviana. Perhaps … can provide information on other aspects to help.

Thanks Sir for deciding features, … for liking….the aspects except life span (which I cannot be certain) point to P. peruviana, the leaf leaf size and pubescence, the size of berry, the fruit size..the anthers (as … have already pointed out)…I believe this should be taken as P. peruviana.. I will definitely look for same again when on next visit to area… and for the time I will post a plant captured from Shimla for comparison…thanks a lot..

These are some pics from Shimla.. which I believe are of the same species… P. peruviana..hope this resolves..

Physalis sp from Chakrata Area
My guess is Physalis peruviana
pls validate

nice…but,,, there is a disturbing colorshift…. the flower is supposed to be yellow…
not this orange-peach as it seems here… what did it look like to naked eyes?

I think Depp yellow orange diffrent from common Physalis

It was yellow only. There has some colour distortion in several photographs of … on this trip

… such deviation normally related to off-setting of white balance.

Yes Sir some changes are there. This was due to low light setting of camera.

That ok, live and learn..
some cameras let you set high ISO for low light and yet set up white balance…
play with your camera’s controls when you have leisure (when… is the watch word for Balkar ji… not often I guess)
High iso setting will also obviate the color shift… or… one could do + 1 .0 in the ev button…

Yes … ev was -1.7 not +1

oooooh… that did it… low light on the flowers and lower still light going to the sensors…
that was the mistake…
may be you did the -.0…. av adjustments for the harsh daylight noontime pics and carried on till 4.00pm?
now you know… and we know… did you not turn off the camera in between… most digitals dont remember…ie they go back to 0 compensation…

In programming mode and manual Mode they remember last settings. – av settings help me to catch all details particularly for whitish objects but with little change in colors sometime

I think it is Physalis grisea

Please wait, P. peruviana still possible.

Thanks Sir I am also trying to fix it

It looks me P.peruviana too.

Physalis peruviana Linnaeus, Sp. Pl., ed. 2. 2: 1670. 1763.
Perennial herb with flowers looking similar to P. grisea but more circular in outline, plants and leaves densely pubescent, leaf base cordate; fruits resembling P. angulata in purple lines especially along major veins, fruits and fruiting calyx larger.
Photographed from Chakrata and Delhi.

yes. what are those dark purple blotches in the flower called?

Thank you Sir, this is quite helpful..

Blotches alright … Sometimes patches, or spotted (eFl China).

ok. patches. do they have a role to play in differential diagnosis… in color, size shape and other features… in various physalis?
they seem to be somewhat different in all those physalis flowers we saw this fortnight

Yes …The two closely related P. grisea and P. pruinosa can be easily identified from flowers.

Found this growing on stone steps with the lone flower barely visible under the leaves. I assume it is what we called Rasbhari, P. peruviana. It could be P. grisea but the leaves and flower seem bigger than its description. Please advise.

There are six Indian species of the genus Physalis viz., (P. alkekengiP. angulataP. ixocarpaP. longifoliaP. minimaP. peruviana)
This specimen was collected from Narayanpur, Nalgonda district, Telengana.
I have not seen any other plant having numerous fruits. The ripe fruit is green.
Kindly identify and oblige

Leaf and flowers are required for proper id. Pl. see Physalis

Was surface of fruit inside calyx baloon sticky ?

Resembles P. peruviana,

Can also be Physalis pruinosa L.
Difficult to judge.

This is P. peruviana only I think. P. pruinosa has much broader beak
