Kindl help in the ID of this shrub with unopened flowers on and with long peduncles, leaves looking something like Ipomoea carnea. Photographed from Tiger Fall area of Chakrata in September.

Though the pics are inconclusive to me but what comes in the mind first is Spermadictyon suaveolens Roxb. (Rubiaceae). If it is, then it will produce bluish flowers later.

Thanks … I think yes, looking at this upload by Nidhan ji from Morni

yes. Spermadictyon suaveolens.

Leaves on being rubbed emit very foul smell, hence known as padari in lower parts of Himachal Pradesh.

The bad smell is perhaps for self defense against insect attack? does anybody here know? have references?
I read a summary of someone’s phd thesis that I cant track down
that it may contain some natural insecticides such as Ursolic acid and Myo inositol (what is Myo in this inositol??/)

Requesting to please provide ID of this plant with purple flowers captured in the Kangra fort near Dharamshala, HP in October 2014.
I had also noticed these flowers abundantly by the roadside from Mandi to Dharamshala. They were mostly on the mountainside and leaning onto the road.
Are they Spermadictyon suaveolens? Guessed the ID based on … post last month.

Yes, correctly guessed. It is Spermadictyon suaveolens (Rubiaceae).

Very correct. It is common shrub in open grasslands all over Himachal. Leaves when macerated among fingers give very foul smell.
