. Erect bushy shrubs. Young stem, petioles, peduncles and calyx densely stellate pubescent. Leaves 6-18 x 3-5.5 cm, elliptic-oblong or ovate-lanceolate, base rounded or cordate, margins subentire to serrulate, apex acute to acuminate, densely stellate hairy when young, glabrous on ageing except the nerve on both sides, 3-ribbed; petioles upto 1 cm long. Flowers in axillary and terminal panicles; pedicels c. 1 mm long; bracts 5-6 mm long, linear-lanceolate. Sepals 5, free, 4-6 mm long, oblong-obovate, tomentose without. Petals 5, yellow, 2-3 mm long, ovate. Stamens many; filaments 3-4 mm long. Ovary c. 1 mm across, globose, 2-4-celled; ovules 2 in each cell. Drupe 6-10 mm across, globose, purple on ripening. Seeds 1-2. Flowering and fruiting: August-April

yeoor hills thane -Mumbai, Maharashtra. 2014 June Grewia serrulata karnala june 2014 It is Grewia nervosa, which shows yellow flower and unlobed drupes.. Grewia serrulata having white coloured flower and drupe is two lobed.
I too think that this is G nervosa, after looking at shape of the leaves and flower of both the species. It was troubling me earlier.
G. serrulata does have yellow flowers sometimes and unfortunately the drupes are not formed yet.
On the next visit to Karnala I shall surely visit the tree again to look at the drupes. This is Microcos paniculata L. Syn: Grewia microcos L.

Looks like some Grewia sp.. Nice pics … Thanks … for your inputs, I think this is planted there, along periphery of the lake.. flowering was almost over..!! This is Grewia nervosa (Lour.) Yes. I concur with … Its earlier name or syn. Grewia microcos. In Kannada it is known as Pitla kayi. I have seen this in Western Ghats near Shimoga.
