Deciduous woody climbing shrubs, usually glabrous, stem woody, grayish brown, branchlets terete, thin, lenticelled and scaly at the base. Leaves narrow ovate, lanceolate-elliptic, oblong-elliptic 5-16 x 2-7 cm across, base cuneate or acute and somewhat slightly nonsymmetrical, margins subentire, sometimes sinuous or faintly distantly toothed, apex deeply acute or shallow acuminate, membranous, slightly soft, glabrous above, minutely verrucose and sub-glaucous beneath, lateral veins 5-7 on either side of the midrib, almost parallel, impressed above, prominent on midrib beneath, margins cartilaginous teeth, reticulate veinlets open, faint, leaves found in clusters in end of shoots, petiole glabrous, slender, channeled above, about 1.5-2 cm long, exstipulate. Flowers 1-4, fragrant, yellowish white, sometimes with 1-2 secondary bracts, about 1.5-2 cm across, pedicels slender, about 1.5-5 cm long, Perianth segments 6-8, ovate-orbicular, subequal, about 5-15 mm across, yellow inside, green outside. Male flowers: Stamens spirally arranged, filaments monadelphous below, free and tubular above, anthers with a thick connective, Female flowers: Carpels 20-24, ellipsoid, about 1.5-2 cm long, imbricated on a conical receptacle. Fruiting receptacle or column about 4-12 cm long, sessile, with 10-30 fruitlets, oblong-ellipsoid or globose, ripe carpels not beaked, 5-7 x 3-4 mm across. Seeds 1-2, smooth, ellipsoid.

Mixed subtropical forests, altitude of about 2,200 m.
Local Distribution: Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Sikkim, West Bengal. Global Distribution: Asia: Bhutan, China, India, Nepal.
