Inflorescence of Bambusa bambos (L.) Voss (Syn: Bambusa arundinacea Willd.) of Poaceae family from Soppinabetta forests of Sringeri, Karnataka.
The pictures are taken 10-10-2011. I attach a relevant paper (it says draft) on B. abamos as well. The flowering frequency varies between once in 30-49 years.

This is common bamboo that can be seen in village thicket, mostly around ponds. These photographs were not meant for the running poaceae week, rather i wanted to shoot Lonchura striata (Linnaeus, 1766)!
The bamboo species might be Bambusa bambos (L.) Voss.
Photographs were recorded on 04-04-2013, in Hooghly.

This resembles Bambusa balcooa as seen in flowersofindia.
Just a guess.

Looks like Dendrocalamus strictus. Please upload photo of full clump and back of culm sheath if possible. Thanks … I will try to get those photos if possible but looks difficult now. Yes, If those are strong spines, then it could be Bambusa bambos. But need to be confirmed whether they are growing buds or strong spines. But I couldn’t find any auricles on the smaller culm sheaths at the axils. But one needs to check the culm sheaths on the main culm. If … could recall whether it was thorny or not. Another aspect is the glaucous nature of young shoot (bluish powder) which is usually found in Dendrocalamus, but there could be variations as well. Anyway, a photo of the whole plant and culm sheath would help confirm the species. I think with insufficient details it may not be possible to get correct identification.
