Sending you my photographs of Wild Moong for comparison. The photographs were taken at my farm at Shahapur.

– Vigna mungo is called as urad dal, udad dal, urd bean, urd. Leaves are different in Urad i am posting Urad pics.

– The names moong and urd and the specific epithets really seem to be creating confusion. To set the record straight we are discussing here three taxa (let us forget Phaseolus because most yellow flowered species have now been shifted to Vigna):

Vigna mungo (L.) Hepper: Black gram, Urad bean, Urad, Harikot mungo, Mash; leaflets unlobed, fruits thicker, 4-5 cm long, densely covered with lighter long hairs, seeds dirty green to almost black, hilum surrounded by a raised rim (aril) (5-10 cm long)
Vigna radiata var. radiata: Golden gram, Green gram, Moog-bean; plants short, erect,  leaflets unlobed, fruits thinner, 6-9 cm long, sparsely covered with shorter brownish hairs, seed light green, longer
Vigna radiata var. sublobata: Jarusalem pea, wild moog; plants twinning, leaflets generally lobed, fruit thinner, 4-6 cm long, sparsely covered with shorter brownish hairs, seeds light green, shorter.
plant clearly has brownish hairs on pods and some leaflets slightly lobed: It is surely V. radiata var. sublobata, the wild moog
plant with pods having thicker pods with longer lighter hairs should be V. mungo, the urad bean or black gram
… plant should also be V. mungo, although difficult to say without fruits.

… please check your source, mash as we know is another name for Urd, and should not be used for this species

Yes … Many thanks for updating this post with correct ID.

that thread has a nice key by … ends my confusion at least (its was a bit of a conundrum for the uninitiated me… vigna mungo is really Urad and not mung (urad is the black bean we eat) and mung is vigna radiata var. radiata is the real green mung, we eat and vigna radiata var. sublobata is the wild mung with browninsh hair on the bean pods…  which this case does. the first big picture above in this thread…
and the beauty of that older thread is that all three in the key has representative excellent pictures in the same place/page/thread.

ID please.

Can this plant be Vigna vexillata (Linn.) A. Rich., Hist.Fis.polit.nat.l,Cuba (Spanish ed.). 11:191. 1845. & in Sagra, Ess.Fl.Cuba 440.1846; Baker in Hook.f., Fl.Brit.Ind.2:206.1876. ?

V. vexillata has relatively larger flower (about 25 – 30 mm) compared to what is posted (about 10 – 12 mm), colour too is different, somewhere between pink to purple.

Ok …, I am looking forward to find a species closer to this. Thanks to point me the difference

I think close to images at Vigna radiata var. sublobata (Roxb.) Verdc.

Thank you very much, …, for working on this ID.

I agree it is close to Vigna radiata var. sublobata, and must be it.
The smaller size of flowers, and their paler colour had made me wonder of the ID.
Will soon revise the labels in flickr.

This is from Rajnagar, Kumarghat, Tripura
This plant is not seen to have any underground tuber.
This may be some Pueraria or related species
Kindly identify

any inflorescence? any at all? even dried up shrivelled up one?

Pl. check comparative images at /species/a—l/f/fabaceae/pueraria

Don’t look like Pueraria sp. Looks like some Vigna species, please check for Vigna sp. in the link provided by …

Was it cultivated or an escapee from cultivation or wild ?
Pl. check Vigna radiata var. sublobata (Roxb.) Verdc. as per comparative images at Vigna

Is it not the following as per your earlier posts:
https://efloraofindia.com/2011/04/05/vigna-radiata-var-sublobata/ ?

I have all of them as only Vigna radiata in my notes, except for one post – markedly different Vigna radiata – delicate twiner with smaller and paler flowers – https://groups.google.com/g/indiantreepix/c/-QAJ
I will check the status of each observation in my notes, and return to this post, tomorrow after going through all of them.

I checked my posts in eFI Group … found one post which has all the observations illustrated in it – Fabaceae (Faboideae) Fortnight :: Vigna radiata var sublobata :: n Western Ghats :: DVOCT130 !!
Later on, I do not recollect why I would have dropped the variety ID in my flickr notes. In either case, the post in our group nor the observations in iNaturalist are validated for what I have suggested.
Thus, I am revising my notes for all the observations listed above to Vigna radiata var. sublobata (Roxb.) Verdc. in both flickr and iNaturalist, and will update here, in case it gets validated otherwise.
Many thanks …, for pointing to the discrepancy in my notes, and the resulting mess.
