BUT if the pod is flat its SNOW PEAS, the seeds are minute and not full bodied round as in the regular peas nor like the sugar snap. these flat peas are available widely in groceries esp with high end and chinese groceries, used to saute them in vegetables. SUGAR SNAP PEAS are like regular peas, except they are inordinately sweet and the whole pod can be eaten, even raw… a favorite of mine.

and they are stringless i.e. less fibrous, so can be eaten whole

and the L. odoratus we grew sometimes for the cut flowers in the homes and the faint scent that wafted from time to time in first few hours of bringing them in was indeed sweet… sweet pea of the english gardens and english home hot houses with “stoves” of last century. ps so which of these peas is it? sugar snap peas with rounded seeds or the flat small attenuated peas called Snow peas I am asking because your description says flat …

This plant shows interesting botanical characters like foliaceous stipules and the terminal leaflets getting modified into tendril. Gregor Mendel used this plant for observations which led to the principles of Mendelian genetics, the foundation of modern genetics.
