Shrub or small deciduous tree about 5-12 m tall. Bark grayish brown, fairly smooth and with vertical rows of lenticels, inside dark brown becoming darker when exposed, branchlets and shoots softly pubescent when young and glabrous when mature, dioecious or polyamous. Leaves bifarious, lanceolate to oblong-lanceolate or narrow ovate, 10-20 x 3.5-6 cm across, slightly asymmetrical, base cuneate or rounded, margin entire, apex deeply acute or shallow acuminate, coriaceous, thin, dark green, glabrous, except sparsely pubescent on the midrib above, paler pubescent beneath and glabrous with age, later veins about 9-11 on either side of the midrib, arched or looped to form an intramarginal vein away from the margin, impressed above and beneath except on the midrib beneath, petiole minutely pubescent, about 0.1-0.3 cm long. Flowers bisexual or unisexual, axillary, extra-axillary or leaf opposed, solitary or 1-3, drooping, about 1.5 cm across, pedicels pubescent, about 1.5-2.5 cm long, bracts basal or submedian, 1-3, linear-lanceolate, apex acuminate. Sepals 3, linear or narrow lanceolate, base free, apex acuminate, rusty brownish pubescent, about 6-7 x 1-1.5 mm across. Petals 6 in 2 series, outer petals somewhat similar to the sepals, inner petals ovate, base saccate, convex from inside, apex acute or subobtuse, blood red or maroon, brownish pubescent outside, glabrous inside, about 1-1.5 x 0.5-0.8 cm across. Stamens many, about 1 mm long, anther ellipsoid, extrorse, connectives apiculate on the top. Carpels many, ovate or ellipsoid, hairy pubescent, about 2 mm long, stigma capitate, sessile. Ripe carpels many, ovoid or subglobose, slightly slender, about 8-10 x 10-18 mm across, stalks slender about 1-1.5 cm long, Seeds 1 to few, subglobose about 4 x 3 mm across.

Semi evergreen to deciduous forests, altitude up to 1000 m.

Local Distribution: Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura, West Bengal.

Global Distribution: Asia: Bhutan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Nepal.

I think could be Diospyros sp.

I do not think it is Diospyros sp.

Mostly Miliusa velutina or Other species also only. Annonaceae.

Many specimens of this species in gbif has been renamed to some other species described a very years back as per

Miliusa codonantha (Annonaceae), a new species from the Indian eastern Himalaya, with a new combination, M. dioeca

Miliusa globosa is rather a dubious name with unclear identity for the application of the name. So, for this species, Miliusa dioeca has to be applied instead.

Am familiar with all the species present in Kerala. But this one is not familiar to me..!!
