9th November 2014 It must be Ormocarpum sennoides. Very nice pictures!
Very unique type of pods. Is it THE character for ID?
I have a doubt regarding the species of this plant.
How is it different from Ormocarpum cochinchinense ? It looks like there is confusion in the nomenclature.
As per FoC, Ormocarpum sennoides (Willd.) DC. is a synonym of Ormocarpum cochinchinense (Lour.) Merr. But according to ILDIS, both are accepted names and both the species are present in India: An another record of ILDIS suggests that Ormocarpum cochinchinense auct. non (Lour.) Merr. is a misapplied name for Ormocarpum sennoides (Willd.) DC. subsp. sennoides (Willd.) DC. So, we may tentatively call this posted plant from Kerala as Ormocarpum sennoides (Willd.) DC. until this confusion is sorted out. Thank you very much for this clarification … Family: Fabaceae
Date: 9th January 2014 Place: Aralam Wildlife Sanctuary, Kerala Habit: Shrub Excellent …, never seen…
