Somewhat shrubby perennial up to 1.5 m tall with alternate linear-lanceolate leaves, lower stem leaves up to 10 cm long, serrate; flowers on up to 12 cm long pedicels in axils of up to 15 cm leaves; calyx very short barely 5 mm, tube short, lobes 3-4 mm; corolla 25-40 mm long, scarlet with yellow tip; filaments red or yellow, anther grey, nearly 10-12 mm long, lower two tufted, upper hirsute. Grown along roadsides in California, often as edging. It seems I have observed this here; somewhere in Mountainview CA
