Is it Dendrobium cucullatum ? : Attachments (1). 3 posts by 3 authors. I have shot a few pictures of flora during my trip to the Andamans last month (March’2015). Not a Botanist but a Photographer documenting the environment especially Flora of our country. I am posting here a couple of pictures of an Orchid which is a Dendrobium but do not know which species and would please like our experts to help. I hope asking for this is ok as it would also benefit many in the group. I will post the remaining flora pics as convenient and ready. The pics and info on the group has helped me immensly with my collection/documentation of flowers of the Valley of Flowers and the adjoining Himalayan ranges whicjh I have been working on over the last 10 years. Thank you all for being here on the group to help novices like myself. This is so confusing but after keeping a bit stone on my heart I would say this is Dendrobium primulinum and not Dendrobium aphyllum…. 🙂 This could be Dendrobium aphyllum (Roxb.) C.E.C.Fisch. It is Dendrobium aphyllum – Orchidaceae Primulinum 🙂 In aphyllum the lateral petals are much broader and in primulinum they are narrower. Primulinum also comes with yellow mark on the labellum, not complete white labellum is not uncommon. This is Dendrobium polyanthum Wall. ex Lindl. Dendrobium polyanthum = Dendrobium primulinum 🙂 Thank you …, I came across the following paper ‘ A review of the orchid diversity of Andaman & Nicobar Islands, India – Karthigeyan et al. it confirms in Fig. 10 (D) as Dendrobium polyanthum. I had come across this on a broken dead branch on the forest path so I decided to carry it back with me to Mumbai. After a week I was surprised to see it sprouting buds! These flowered and now there are 2 flowers. I noticed that on blooming the Labellum was white with a few maroon streaks, after a couple of days the white developed into a lovely pale yellow glow in the centre. Thanx fr your help. I will be posting a few more pics of other flora I have shot very soon.
