Shrub erect or sometimes scandent (Gamble) about 15-20 ft tall. Bark brown, corky lenticellate, branches and branchlets cylindric or obtusely quadrangular, young parts pubescent. Leaves simple decussate opposite, elliptic-ovate, oblanceolate-obovate, 8-24 x 3-11 cm across, base cuneate to acuminate, margins subentire or very faintly serrate, apex acuminate, subcoriaceous, green, glabrous, slightly pubescent on veins above, glabrous whereas densely pubescent or densely villous, more on the veins beneath, lateral veins 6-8 on either side of the midvein, ascending, prominent above, petiole stout, about 0.5 cm long, sometimes leaves near the apex sessile, exstipulate. Inflorescence terminal spikes, interrupted, spaced at 0.3-0.7 cm, flowered cymes, about 8-16 cm long, peduncles cylindric about 1.5-2 cm long, bracts ovate-lanceolate, apex acuminate, about 1 mm long. Flowers bisexual, many, white, yellowish green, sessile, calyx cupular, 4 toothed, slightly glandular pubescent outside, about 2 x 1 mm across, corolla infundibular, 4 lobed, lobes subequal, white or yellowish green, lobes ovate to oblong, apex obtuse, 0.6 x 0.5 mm across, corolla tube narrow, glabrous, about 1.5 mm long, stamens 4, didynamous, slightly exserted, about 2-2.5 mm long, filaments slender, glabrous, filiform, about 2 mm long, anthers globose, 2 loculed, ovary obovoid or subglobose, glabrous, about 1 mm across, style slender, glabrous, about 2-2.5 mm long, filiform, stigma bi-lobed. Fruits obovate, black when ripe, yellowish glandular near the apex.
Valleys, near large rocks, steep slopes at an altitude around 5000-8000 ft.
