Stems: Climbing / Forming thickets. Length-20 cm and Diameter-3 cm. Leaf sheaths: Dull green with light brown hairs or rusty brown hairs, with spines which are dark brown in color which are scattered to densely arrangedd, upward-pointing upto 3.5 cm (sometimes reaching even upto 10 cm at sheath apices), ochreas are conspicuous, small in size and are soon falling. The knees are present, flagella is upto 3 m, rachis is upto 1.3 m with 30-65 linear-lanceolate pinnae per side, these are regularly arranged, the middle pinnae is 25–45 cm in size, the apical ones are smaller than others, at the mid-point their size ranges from 1.7–2.2 cm, the abaxial and adaxial veins are bristly and cirri are absent. The inflorescens are flagellate and grow upto 3 m. The inflorescence bracts are not sheathing, brown, they split open and are flat. The fruits are globose, brown or yellowish brown and 0.8 cm in diameter.
