SK 4018 17 August 2024: 3 very high res. images.
Habitat : Wild
Phoebe bootanica or near to that!
Listed are attentuata, cathia, hainesiana, lanceolata and pallida; matching elevation are cathia, lanceolata and pallida. Bootanensis does not look like a match and no distribution.
Fruit shape is slightly peculiarly positioned on calyx.
Please see the elongated pedicels which are jointed towards base. This is none other than Phoebe bootanica or a related species (leaves not seen).
Fruits were found on the ground. Tree looks tall.
It is collected from Central Nepal by Stainton. See Edinburgh specimens. E01137628

I feel calyx looks different for Phoebe bootanica as per GBIF specimens (one and two)
The tepals have fallen down here and the persistent calyx tube has enlarged and clasping the base of the fruits. This is the characteristic feature of the genus Phoebe and the only way to distinguish it from the closely related genus Machilus. The elongated fruiting pedicels, articulated towards base, clearly point to Phoebe bootanica.
Please try to collect the plant, if possible.
Is this the same sp. fruit?
I think not.
