    Another Oncidium hybrid.

yes also a very popular flower for silk flower industry

What is a silk flower industry?

    ha ha

definition: economic activity concerned with the processing of raw materials and manufacture of goods in factories.

eg “new investment incentives for British industry”

    synonyms: manufacturing, production, fabrication, construction

    “the decline of British industry”

so silk flower industry is an economic activity that processes silk polyester etc into flowers = silk flower industry
its a few billions of dollars worth of industry based mainly in china , taiwan, Thailand. mostly chinese made though floods markets in the homegoods stores. now india is another destination for these.
i have loved these bright yellow flower sprays that last and last, only care it needs is a dusting or yearly soft soap wash and dry….
this picture is a screenshot from google images, captured for this writing. there are hundreds of these /such pictures and they make all kinds of orchids, other flowers, you imagine it and they make it.
they even make grasses and bamboos, etc

Provisionally identified as intergeneric Oncidium hybrid, possibly Oncidioda Volcano Midnight from Facebook Group Plant Identification.

But could not find matching images on Google

Yes sir this is looks like a di-generic hybrid of Cochlioda × Oncidium and may be Oncidioda Volcano Midnight.

I am no good for hybrid identification though. There are nearly 350 species of Oncidium and then there are 100s of hybrid….. An orchid horticulture guy can help!!

  • Oncostele Wildcat ‘Yellow Butterfly’ (USA)

    /wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Dubia-orchid-9-Fremont-IMG_9690-California-2.jpg

Oncostele Wildcat ‘Yellow Butterfly’ supposed to be intergeneric hybrid between Odontocidium and Colmanara (I am unsure how this name can be formed: it has to be first part of one genus and second part of another). I hope … can throw some light and validate.

Ornamental from a store in Fremont, California, Oct 28, 2016.

I am not sure if your name for this is correct. I can see lot of variation on the flower with that name.

Ofcourse it has Oncidium in it but may also have Miltonia!!
Yes your curiosity of the name is correct because the two genera involved for Oncostele are Oncidium and Rhynchostele.
On the other hand OdontocidiumOdontoglossum and Oncidium

ColmanaraMiltonia, Odontoglossum and Oncidium (Now where ‘R’ came into the hybrid name, I have no idea). I dont know if there is a compulsion of naming hybrid by combining the name of the parents, its just a trend.

    Just read this on Wikipedia

“× Oncostele, abbreviated Ons., is a hybrid genus of orchids, used for greges containing at least one ancestor species from the genera Oncidium (Onc.) and Rhynchostele (Rst.)”
That fits perfectly with my interpretation of formation of names of nothogenera.

Yes a hybrid of Oncidium and Rhynchostele.

Thanks a lot … for validating.

Its good to see so many orchids. Second good thing to see is most of these plants are hybrids unlike most of the shops here in Hong Kong or in South Asian countries you will find wild collected or propagated ones which is not good for conservation.

Is this commonly Called Dancing Lady? Request Bot ID.

    Seems to be an ONCIDIUM..
very popular a few years ago for their long (almost a month ) lasting flowers, as houseplant

nice to know the full name
    i used to have one
    then,
It was so popular a few years ago
silk reproductions were available at very high prices
everybody wanted to keep some in the home…
I bought a few sprigs for my mom, she gave them pride of the place on dining room display cabinet
they are washed periodically, the silk holds up and going strong
may be one of these days I’ll take some pics of the artificial one that looks so real!!
Angel? yes, esp if they were white (with pink or blue, traditional angelic figurines and paintings) , we could strongly associate them with angels .. being yellow at least I did not readily think of angels, but you are right… they have a look…
Pondicherry ashram has a couple of books by Mother about the spiritual aspects of flowers if you can find the book look it up and tell me if this or other orchids were thus defined by Mother?

If this is the common oncidium that is found everywhere then it is Oncidium Golden Shower a very old hybrid.

There are so many hybrids of Oncidium that I have no idea which one is a real species.

This is atleast not goldiana, petals are obviously different.
