Cyanodon sp. Chloris flagellifera (Nees) P.M. Peterson Cynodon dactylon . Submission of Cynodon barberi – YS Apr/2020-04 : 7 posts by 3 authors. Attachments (5) – around 900 kb each.
This grass is a species of genus Cynodon Rich. looking different from Cynodon dactylon (L.) Pers. in its overall size.
According to a book, named ‘Grasses of Punjab & Chandigarh’ by P.K. Khosla, this sp. perfectly matches with Cynodon barberi Rang. & Tadul. So, firstly I did identify it as C. barberi. But than I checked Grassbase and POWO. Grassbase did not show any description for C. barberi but POWO had a description, being showed according to Grassbase, in which the size of spikes in inflorescence was not matching. So experts please help to resolve this confusion.
I’m quite convinced by the key and description given in above stated book but confusion arose because of the description on POWO, which could be a mistake, I think !
Key:-
1a. Lemmas more or less equal to upper glumes, hairs on lemmas clavellate……………..C. barberi
1b. Lemmas longer than upper glumes, hairs on lemmas not-clavellate……………………C. dactylon

Place – Rewari, Haryana.
Adding one more photograph for comparison. This is also Cynodon dactylon. The length of upper glume in (5) is definitely shorter than lemma. In (6), it seems to be longer, may be due to the angle of photography. Even otherwise, there are a lot of varieties of Cynodon dactylon, both indegenous and exotic developed as fodder and lawn grass. Hence there is lot of variability in Cynodon dactylon. Cynodon barberi is a different species with different habit altogether. It has no stolons and hence do not spread to large areas like Cynodon dactylon. The leaves of C.barberi are shorter than that of C.dactylon. The leaves are not linear, but are lanceolate in C.barberi. I am attaching the Kew herbarium sheet of C.barberi.

This is Cynodon dactylon (L.) Pers. differing from Cynodon barberi (recently posted by me, YS Apr2020-04), in having lemma longer than upper glume, while latter has lemma more or less equal to upper glume. This feature is easily visible in my posted photographs, kindly note.

Thank you … I also felt the same but wanted experts opinion. Grass Week : Durva (Dub) grass from Dombivli, Thane Dt.:
Sending a photo of Durva grass. This grass is offered to Lord Ganesha and it is one of his favorites. The grass has cooling effect and used in skin diseases, blood disorders, thirst and burning sensation in the body. Useful links showing my work on Doob. Link Auspicious and medicinally important grass As there is no single spikelet or flowering spike it is very difficult to IDFy the species. Looks like Cynodaon sp. that’ll. What is offered to Lord Ganesh, as I know, is garike hullu in kannada and its botanical name is Cyanodon dactylon. Juice is supposed to be very healthy and morning walkers after their walk in Kukkarahalli
kere, a beautiful tank, get the juice from a roadside vendor nearby. Some one has guessed it has C. barberi. But it is not. Looking at following comment by … in another thread Submission of Cynodon barberi – YS Apr/2020-04 (google.com) Cynodon dactylon . . References:
