Sav.; Elatostema nipponicum Makino [Invalid]; Elatostema webbianum Wedd.); . Erect, simple, annual herbs; stems 3-angular, short- hairy towards the apex. Leaves subsessile, accrescent upwardly, often with a smallest opposite leaf, 0.7-4 x 0.5-2 cm, falcate-cuneate to obovate, with a narrowed, entire base, obtuse or acute, crenate-serrate in the upper part, ciliate, glabrous or thinly hairy, with linear cystoliths; stipules minute, ovate, acute. Male flowers: heads in the axils of upper leaves; pedicels 0.15-0.18 cm long. Perianth- segments ovate, obtuse, glabrous, 0.05-0.07 cm long. Stamens 4; filaments 0.08 cm long. Female flowers: heads 0.3-0.6 cm across, with a few female flowers in the centre; involucral bracts 2-4; outer ones ovate, acuminate; inner ones ovate-oblong, rounded, ciliate; bracteoles spathulate, 0.2 cm long. Perianth with a 3-4-dentate mouth. Achenes reddish brown, ovoid-ellipsoid, 0.04-0.05 cm long.
