Either a new species or Gastrodia dyeriana reported from Sikkim side.
You need to collect and dissect if you can and take good pics to publish it.
Could very well be a new species too, but cant confirm without looking at dissected flower. Did not find any image in the net except for the sketch from the link Jay’s Orchid.
However, image from the book from Naresh Swamy is matching with Gastrodia dyeriana KIng & Pantling. One Gastrodia falconeri is found listed in Nepal in the new book by DPR, Nepal but it does not look like matching. Any opinion?
No sir, this is not Gastrodia falconeri. Thank you … I was with the same oipinion. Since there is no other listed is it possible that it could be new to Nepal ? … doesn’t dissect flowers if I understand well and he only matches his plants with what is given in King and Pantling’d book. He is a good photographer and buy a wrongly self proclaimed orchid expert. Infact the cover page of Orchids of Ziro has a misidentified plant right on the cover. I think this is Gastrodia huapingensis

I also do not believe that Gastrodia huapingensis is found in India. The paper by BSI is another mistake.

The record from India of Gastrodia huapingensis by BSI is also incorrect most likely. The best way to confirm is to dissect this flower.
This is not D. major. This has already been ID by you as Gastrodia dyeriana King & Pantl. and matching.
I think this looks allied to Gastrodia dyeriana. Had seen once in sikkim, this one resambles a lot.
The problem is which is which. My response was based on … comment. It appears that all of them are allied and needs to be merged ultimately 🙁
I agree with …, these species are quite allied morphologically, after verification and if individuals be encountered, may be merged later.
