Attachments (1)

Two stamens indicate towards Oleaceae. Not sure since it has many perianths and leaves are not opposite as visible in pics.
Ligustrum ?

Leaves are alternate to spiral, crowded towards end of branchlets.
I’ll check it under Oleaceae

examined the specimen and found it close to;
Meliosma simplicifolia (Roxb.) Walpers Syn. Meliosma pungens (Wallich ex Wight & Arn.) Walpers
I request to the expert for id validation.

The ID is correct to me.
Two species are given in Gaur 1999 which differentiate M.dillenifolia and M.simplicifolia clearly.
Osmaston (1927) has mentioned 3 species in the area differentiating as follows:
1A. Leaves simple………..2
2A. Leaves obovate; lateral nerves straight; teeth numerous, close…………..M.dillenifolia
2B. Leaves oblanceolate; lateral nerves curved; teeth few, distant …………..M.pungens
1B. Leaves pinnate ……………………………………………………………………………M.wallichii
[M.pugens is now M.simplicifolia subsp. pungens]

The plant here matches fairly with M.simplicifolia subsp. pungens

Thank you Sir, I am taking it as Meliosma simplicifolia subsp. pungens (Sabiaceae)

Family: Sabiaceae
Date: 20th June 2015
Place: Chikamagalur, Karnataka
Habit: Short tree
Habitat: Shola forest
Key to species and subspecies.

Meliosma species are difficult to distinguish. The only standard point of reference seems to be that of Beusekom (in Blumea vol. 19. 1971).

I guess the ID is correct.

I checked for any visual difference in subsp. pungens from its parent species on the internet.
It says:  flowers in the subsp. pungens are “tightly packed” in clusters at the branch tips.
I have uploaded one cropped photo in flickr and iNaturalist. Uploading it here too.
