Plants to 12cm tall; roots tufted, numerous, long, flattened, 3-5mm wide. Leaves usually 1-3, semi-deciduous, elliptic to elliptic-obovate, acute to subacute, sessile jointed, 2.5-12 x 1-3.5cm. Inflorescence basal, pendent, racemose, 6- to 8-flowered; peduncle ridged, sheathed, 2-2.6cm long; sheaths distant, tubular at base, ovate, acute above, 2-2.5mm long; rachis ridged, glabrous, c.1.5cm long; floral bracts ovate-triangular, acute, 2-3 x 0.5-0.8cm. Flowers 1-1.5cm across; pale purple, pink to white (changing to pale green after fertilisation), lip epichile and anther purple; pedicel and ovary slender, curved, 0.9-1cm long. Sepals subequal, obtuse, 5-veined; dorsal sepal oblong-oblanceolate, 0.7-1 x 0.15-0.3cm; lateral sepals broadly elliptic, 0.6-1 x 0.3-0.4cm. Petals obovate, obtuse, 0.5-1 x 0.25-0.5cm.Lip adnate to the column foot; hypochile spurred below, with 2 long, narrowly oblong, falcate, backward-projecting lobes, 0.8-1cm long; epichile spathulate-oblong, entire, upper surface with a forked appendage, 6-9 x 2.53.5mm. Column narrowly winged, c.3mm long; spur cylindric-conical. Fruit narrowly cylindric, curved, 3.5-5.5 x 0.4-0.7cm.

Our Sikkim WB was most successful tour for me because we found 15 orchids

all new for me .. i will like to share with you this beauty called Phalaenopsis taenialia

first … located it on tree, it was in buds latter we found growing on rock which was withered

but finally through running cab … located bunch of it in full fresh bloom, we remembered landmark

and then walked back with cameras to capture this beauty.. it was high up on tree almost out of reach, one local boy helped us to get it
i was soo happy… after that we found it at so many places, it was found growing epiphytically on Tea plant at Darjeeling

Thanks …, i will like to get my collection documented too but picture and information i am having is not enough for documentation for that i will have to explore and learn much more about orchids

Orchids from Sikkim-Darjeeling Tour-Phalaenopsis taenialis for validation:: NS July 01 : 7 posts by 6 authors. Attachments (6).
This tiny epiphytic orchid was shot from Pellling and Darjeeling in May 2014, finding and finally getting the pics was not less interesting than the plant itself is..
I hope this is Phalaenopsis taenialis… please validate or correct..
