Wow where did you get this from :). Wonderful pics. thanks for sharing.

There are many spice farms that have come up in Goa. This one is Tanshikar’s Spice Farm near Netravali, a very nice place to find most of the plants producing spices.

Great view of this Brazilean spice. Today I explained Orchidaceae to my PG students and quoted it as a natural spice and a climbing orchid. Will show them too.

My son had photographed similar plant from Kerala. I will upload it for confirmation.

Beautiful upload … I too have one sp of Vanilla (Most probably) will upload soon

Sharing pictures of Vanilla from Mumbai, Munnar and Sri Lanka.
Buds and flower seen at Jijamata Udyan, Mumbai, Vanilla plant in Sri Lanka and Pods in a Spice garden in Munnar.
It had slipped my mind, … post reminded me that Vanilla comes under Orchidaceae.
My picture of pods is also on FOI.

Thanks … for sharing all aspects of this useful plant

Very good documentation. The vanilla essence used extensively in various food items is derived from this.

Seen this Orchid creeper at North Karnataka and Goa.
Bot. name: Vanilla planifolia

I have this plant for over 10 years now but it never flowered 🙁 Thanks a lot for sharing.

Oh where did you get that plant. Actually this is not found in India. It was introduced by Britishers for Vanilla extraction from the seed pods. Nice to see that it flowered. I have it at home but it never flowers.

… there are now many “spice” farms in and around Goa. Eco-tourism is catching up. Cultivated plants and their importance and trivia are explained to tourists.
This particular vanilla plant is at Tanshikar’s Spice Farm at Netorli, Goa.
