Culms densely tufted, geniculate, to 45 cm. Leaf-blades flat or involute, 4-7.5 x 0.15-0.2 cm, rigid, margins sometimes glandular; ligule a ridge of cilia, to 0.2 cm. Panicles ovate, to 10 cm; rachis and branches capillary and eglandular; branching axis glabrous. Spikelets linear-oblong, 0.4-0.8 x 0.1-0.15 cm, breaking up from base upwards, 10-20-flowered; rachilla persistent. Glumes ovate, hyaline, unequal, obtuse; lower glume to 0.06 cm; upper glume to 0.12 cm; lemmas broadly ovate, to 0.18 cm; palea linear-oblong, persistent. Grain subglobose, reddish-brown, to 0.07 cm. Flowering and fruiting: October-November
