Is this Portia tree (Thespesia Populnea)?
There aren’t any flowers.
The foliage looks like that from distance. But in its leaves the petiole is attached away from the edge.
Tree Location: Chhota Kashmir in Aare Colony, Mumbai. Or is it Tree Mallow / Hibiscus Tiliaceus? I don’t believe that this is Thespesia, based on the attachment of the petiole to the leaf blade. I believe this is a Macaranga. Perhaps Macaranga tanarius. It is Macaranga peltata locally called Chanda. in marathi called as Chandava I too seconds … Sending you photographs of Macaranga peltata fruit. The photographs were taken at Tunganeshwar W.L.S. at the end of March this year.

From the leaves i.e. the stalk holding up the leaf like an umbrella (peltate) I presume this is Macaranga tomentosa. The Macaranga tree is one of few trees that have large leaves in an otherwise leafless forest of Sanjay Gandhi National Park, Mumbai during the current summer months. It is Macaranga peltata [M. tomentosa] locally called Chanda.

    Macaranga peltata: – In malayalam – poriyani – During my childhood days I remember my grand mother giving upma in the leaves of this tree.

Your Facebook friends took it is M. peltata I have seen but without flowers you can not separate it from M. indica! When in flowering please check whether the bracts have a large sessile gland at base outside and let us know.
