Description:

Shrubs 1-2m tall; bark grey-brown, branchlets hispid. Leaves alternate, distichous; lamina simple, oblong or ovate-lanceolate, 3-6 × 2-3 cm, margin entire, apex acute, coriaceous. Flowers 1.5-2 cm across, creamy yellow with maroon colored center, solitary, axillary; peduncle short, drooping on the underside of the leaves. Sepals 3, minute. Petals 3, creamy yellow colored with a maroon base on both sides. Torus cylindric; stamens many, filaments short, anther cells ovate. Carpels many, sessile, style short. Capsules globose; a ring of 1 seeded carpels.

Habitat & location: Endemic to Peninsular India. Rare. Found at high altitudes in hills

This species was described from Sri Lanka and it extends to India – so far known from Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
