Herbs, ca. 0.3-1.2 m tall, annual, pubescent or velutinous; stems erect, slender, striate. Leaves simple, alternate, spiral; lamina 3-15 x 0.5-5 cm, elliptic-obovate, oblong-lanceolate, or oblanceolate, narrowly long attenuate at base, acute at apex, margin bidentate, surface villous-pilose above, white or brown villous beneath; upper leaves sessile, obovate-oblong, almost entire. Heads ca. 1-1.8 cm across, in axillary and terminal clusters; involucral bracts purple, lanceolate, acuminate, densely villous outside; florets purple. DV :: 01MAY12 – 0511 :: Grangea-like small herb at Tungwadi: Place: at Tung Wadi, Lonavala
Time: May 1, 2012 at 5.11pm
Habit: small Asteraceae herb
Habitat: growing wild in dried field near bund ~ 2500 ft asl
Plant height: about 6 – 8 inches

I think this is similar to one that I had photographed from Panvel & posted earlier.
Let me check and get back.
Just a guess….leaves in your picture and mine posted earlier, the leaves resemble Blumea oxyodonta, ‘Spiny Leaved Blumea’ as in ‘flowersofindia’.

It is Blumea glomerata– corollas yellow, heads sessile in distinct fascicles on long nearly leafless spikes; leaves oblanceolate, coarsely toothed, or pinnatifid; plants densely hairy (as per FPM Gamble, ..)

I find lot of variations in the Blumea species.

This is not Grangea for sure. will get back to the species in some time

Yes now i recollect. it is Blumea glomerata..encountered it in Mumbai at S G. National park.
