Berberis osmastonii Dunn. (Berberidaceae) is a narrow endemic of Uttarakhand. No photograph of this endemic species is available on web and the photograph uploaded here is probably the first one as I failed to find it on the net.
This species is extremely rare and listed in Indian Red Data Book and IUCN Red Data Book 1997.
I noticed few individuals in the habitat.
Locality of the species is intentionally not disclosed to avoid collection from this wild habitat.

Yes It is an endemic species, but very common in Uttarakhand specially in two district (Chamoli and Pithoragarh). I have seen this plant in four different localities in the state and counted app. 5000 individuals. Yes this species have only limited habitats.
As i had published in my paper in The Checklist and also mention in my Thesis.

I appreciate seeing this picture and the fact that you very sensibly and with great sensitivity did not disclose the location.

I believe that a narrow endemic with only a population of 5000 individuals (or little more) is always at risk of extinction.
