This appears to be a Tabebuia species-not T.aurea or T.spectabilis. Had sent other pics of same flowers & leaves last year too but did not get
a conclusive ID. Do not have pic of trunk. Pic taken in Lalbagh, Bangalore on 14-02-10 at around 9.30am. Request once again for ID.

the plant in the attached photo may be Tabebuia chrysotricha.

I doubt it … Someone else had suggested the same & provided this link:

I found T.chrysotricha after ‘Tabebuia search’. I find the leaves of T.chrysotricha are very different from the leaves of the Tabebuia in
the picture i have sent

Your asumption can be true, I will wait to see the ultimate name of the plant.

Is it Tabebuia argentia.

It is definitely not T.argentea. I noticed i had repeated one pic instead of giving a pic of leaves. I have corrected it this time.
I’m putting up the link once again.
After a confusing investigation I say that this may be T. chrysantha looking at the elliptic-lanceolate and membraneous leaves

Agreed, not T. argentea. It is not one of the Tabs I’ve seen before. Has anyone investigated T. serratifolia?

I tend to doubt T. chrysotricha (now Handroanthus chrysotrichus) because of the apparent glabrous foliage. It looks closer to H. umbellatus (T. umbellata), but even that I’m not certain of.
I forwarded to others who may be of assistance. If I hear any response, I’ll forward.

I also think it is T. Chrysantha
Since it has leaves palmately compound with 5  leaflets.
If the tree is 5-6 m high then its T. Chrysantha for sure.

Here are a couple of pics of Handroanthus (Tabebuia) guayacan, umbellatus, and serratifolius (all yellow-flowered spp with glabrous foliage) showing rather distinct branching habits and inflorescences in the presence or absence of foliage.

Unfortunately, these pics are not very clear, but they may provide some help nonetheless. Of these three yellow-flowered species, the only one I’ve seen/touched in person is H. umbellatus, and though that is a possibility, the other two species merit additional investigation, IMHO.

Handroanthus (Tabebuia) guayacan a member of Bignoniaceae bears a very beautiful flowers. Have you seen it in flowering stage? Bright yellow flowers ?

The first mail i had sent in this thread has pictures
of the flowers.

Some [many!] more pics of the same tree [taken on o4-04-2010 at Lalbagh Botanical Garden] Looks like T.chrysantha going by close-up of leaves? Attachments (7)

Taking this as Handroanthus chrysanthus subsp. meridionalis as per GBIF (Handroanthus chrysanthus subsp. meridionalis (A.H.Gentry) S.O.GroseFlora of Karnataka

Request ID for the tree bearing these flowers + leaves. Pic taken at Lalbagh Botanical Garden, Bangalore on 080209.

A Tabebuia species, though I’m not certain which one.

Tropical Garden Plants by Bose, Chowdhury & Sharma gives two such species Tabebuia chrysantha (Beautiful dwarf tree with five ovate leaflets) &  Tabebuia donnell-smithii (medium sized tree 8-10 m, with 5-7 ovate leaflets).

The foliage does not look like T. donnell-smithii (Cybistax d.)
I haven’t seen T. chrysantha  personally, so that may be it. (Other yellow-flowered species it is not are T. aurea/T. argentea, T. chrysotricha, T. umbellata.)

Request full id of this tree. Looks like Tabebuia species. I had sent different pics of the same flowers & leaves last year but did not get a conclusive ID. Pic taken on 14-02-10 in Lalbagh Botanical Garden, Bangalore around 10.30am.

Any chance to get close-ups of the foliage and the bark?

I remember you suggesting this could be Tabebuia chrysantha when I had sent the pics last year but i could not get it confirmed. Will get the required pics when i visit Lalbagh next-in March only tho’:) In the meantime here is a  pic of the leaves which I had sent last year.. Thank you for your help. Attachments (1)

Saw this large tree in Lalbagh on 25/11/13.

Name given is Tabebuia spectabilis.
No flowers when the picture was taken.
Leaves look similar to another Tabebuia posted by me recently with couple of yellow flowers
(Tree For ID : Bignoniaceae : Lalbagh,Bangalore : 291113 : AK-1)
Both could be the same.

Tabebuia spectabilis (Planch. & Linden) G.Nicholson is a synonym of Handroanthus chrysanthus subsp. meridionalis (A.H.Gentry) S.O.Grose as per The Plant List.

Yes, is a beautiful plant during winter in the Indian Botanic Garden because of the bright yellow flowers.

Thanks for confirming the id.
My other Tabebuia from Lalbagh, could be the same.
I will resurface it.

The leaves looks different from what grin says.
I do have the pictures of the flowers

A small tree with yellow flowers seen at Lalbagh on 23/11/13.

… has suggested Tabebuia aurea, but the leaves look different to me.
Could this also be Tabebuia spectabilis?
It shows a couple of yellow flowers.

I have not checked any other references. Pl. check other references on net.
