Cordia africana is a species of flowering tree in the borage family, Boraginaceae, that is native to Africa. [1] Cordia africana has been used in the manufacture of drums. The Akan Drum which is now in the British Museum was identified as being of African manufacture because it was found to be made from this tree.[2] It is also sometime called Sudan Teak and has been used for cabinet making, high-quality furniture, veneers and general construction. The wood can be used to manufacture beehives which can be kept in this tree where the bees can live off the plentiful supply of nectar which comes from the flowers. In addition the tree supplies leaves for forage and an edible fruit.[1]

Boraginaceae Week :: Request for ID : Nairobi,Kenya : 090612 : AK-3 : 2 posts by 1 author. Attachments (1) One of my very old posts, picture posted on our group of this flower from Nairobi, Kenya taken during my visit. Picture taken on 30/1/2009.
A cultivated, small, garden tree, about 7-8 feet in height with many white flowers.
I thought it to be a Cordia species.
Can it be Cordia boissieri?
Experts kindly confirm. This could be Cordia africana as per the following link…
I have also photographed this tree from the grounds of Nairobi Museum.
Taken at Nairobi, Kenya on the 30th of Jan, 2009. Cordia? May be Althaea sp ? This is not anything from Malvaceae as the flower doesn’t have monadelphous stamen neither the flowers are solitary may be some convolvulaceae members? Again, it could be Cordia africana. http://www.ngkenya.com/flora/cordia-01.html Cordia africana or Cordia boissieri? Both look close.
Cordia africana only, as leaves are large. ID Request- Tree from Munnar- PKA6 : 8 posts by 4 authors. Attachments (7) Seen this Tree with White coloured flowers at the outskirts of Munnar. Thanks, … Malvaceae? Cordia species. This appears to be Cordia africana Lam. [Boraginaceae]. Could you spot ‘Neela kurinji’ which flowers once in 12 years and now in flowering ? Thanks … for the ID. This tree does matches with Cordia africana Lam. [Boraginaceae]…

Thanks, … In that case, pl. check comparative images at Cordia
The leaves look somewhat similar to Cordia species. Could be ! But, I am not sure as the flowers are hazy. If any other photo showing the close up of flowers are available it would be helpful. Looks like Cordia sp. Closest I can go as per comparative images is Cordia africana Lam. Pl. check. Images appears to be insufficient.
