Burmannia disticha is distributed in South and Southeast Asia to tropical Australia. In India it is foind in Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya and West Bengal. Occurs at an altitude of 1,500 to 2,600 m (Cook 1996).

It found in shallow water but usually in swamps, wet flushes, boggy ground or on wet rocks (Cook 1996).
