Glabrous erect perennial herb up to 1 m tall; leaves ovate lanceolate, 5-10 cm long, strongly 3-nerved, acuminate; flowers white or pinkish, 2.5-4 cm across, in dense terminal corymbs; bracts lanceolate; calyx tubular, 16-20 mm long, green or tinged purple, obscurely veined, lobes ovate; petals with emarginate tip, linear appendages at the base of limb; capsule 1.5 cm long, cylndric-ovoid.
