Habitat- Garden/ Urban/ Wild/ Type– waste land
Plant Habit-herb
Height/Length- ca. 1m; trailing
Leaves Type/ Shape/ Size- 8 x 2.5 cm
Inflorescence Type/ Size- axillary cyme; 1cm across
Flowers Size/ Colour/ Calyx/ Bracts- light purple 


– This could be Cyanotis axillaris. But am not sure about the identity as the allied species Cyanotis cucullata also look alike. But differs in characters of their fruit. If you could give the details about the fruit, I can sort it out for you.

Cyanotis ID from Hooghly 29/10/12 sk1:

Found this small herb inside an uncultivated paddy field.
Species : UNKNOWN
H & H : herb of about 10 cm height, similar to my earlier upload but with 1) smaller leaves, 2) smaller in length and 3) with single terminal flower except a very few
Date : 26/10/12, 10.25 a.m.
Place : Hooghly

This looks like Cyanotis axillaris [previously Tonningia axillaris].


Certainly there are few C. axillaris (eg. the left one in the first pic) in the attached pictures, but thought there might be another species growing side by side.

the plant you posted seems like a Cyanotis species… The posted plant is Cyanotis axillaris (= Amischophacelus axillaris)

I have attached 3 different plants collected at different locations  in nellore district only, they look closer to Cyanotis axillaris but with some difference, I wish to know whether all these are same (ie cyanotis axillaris) or different
