Snapshot of another climber – shot taken today in Uluberia garden, Howrah, West Bengal. is it a kind of ipomoea? Flowers tiny, approx. .5 inch dia. . Need ID for a flower.: I tagged my photo for a flower as Evolvulus alsinoides ( dwarfed Morning glory or शंखपुष्पी) but got confused when someone said it could be Jacquemontia violacea.
Can you help me to confirm the identification of flower in my photo and provide some more inputs on Jacquemontia violacea flower to understand the difference?

E. alsinoides is a tiny wild herb spreading on ground and the flowers are solitary and just 5-7 mm. Jacquemontia violacea is a large twining climber found in gardens, the flowers are in clusters and about 2 cm dia. It looks to be Jacquemontia but you are best placed to differenciate depending on the size and where you clicked them. yes it is Jacquemontia (twining climber) and not Evolvulus (small prostrate herb)

Skyblue Clustervine is a handsome light climber. Native to tropical America, it has spread to many tropical countries because of the ease with which it can be grown and for its beautiful appearance. Ideal for covering trellises and growing in pots over “balloons,” Skyblue Clustervine is a small freely blooming creeper of controllable growth.
The stem of the creeper is slender and green and the leaves are arranged alternatively.
The leaves are small, shiny and heart-shaped with pointed tips.
The bell-shaped white-throated ultramarine blue flowers are produced in clusters at the ends for long stalks. The creeper looks gorgeous with its many flowers spread on it after rains and in the cooler season.
Compared to other members of morning glory family, the flowers are smaller. They are about the size of a one-rupee coin or 2.5 cms across, with the petals fixing into bell shape with five stamens.

J. paniculata is a wild plant with 1 cm white flowers. … please validate if Jacquemontia violacea (Vahl) Choisy is also a possibility. To me your plant seems to be the same as one uploaded by … as Jacquemontia pentantha, and also commonly cultivated in Delhi. J. paniculata and J. coerulea seem to be quite distinct species. J paniculata has calyx lobes ovate-lanceolate nearly 5-6 mm broad, and corolla shorter barely 1 cm long as against 2-4 mm broad and corolla 2 cm long in J. pentantha. Plus if we see most photographs on net including one on Flowers of India (…), J. paniculata has lighter coloured (nearly white flowers with distinctly narrow and sharply pointed corolla lobes.
Jacquemontia coerulea (Schum. & Thonn.) Choisy ex G. Don is now considered as synonym of J. ovalifolia (Choisy) Hallier.f. seems also to have similar coloured flowers but with much broader corolla lobes and apparantly larger flowers and much different oval leaves..
But there also seems to be confusion about the status of Jacquemontia violacea. Flora of China reports Fang and Huang (Fl. Reipubl. Popularis Sin. 64(1): 46. 1979) incorrectly listed Jacquemontia violacea (Vahl) Choisy, based on Convolvulus violaceus Vahl, as a synonym for J. paniculata. Jacquemontia violacea is a synonym of J. pentantha (Jacquin) G. Don, a West Indian species introduced to Asia as an ornamental but not known to be in China.
The Plant list only adds to the confusion. It treats it as synonym of Jacquemontia paniculata (Burm. f.) Hallier f., but treats its basionym Convolvulus violaceus Vahl as synonym of Jacquemontia pentantha (Jacq.) G. Don My thoughts after going through each name, … my posted plant looks fitting to J. violacea, now a synonym of J. pentantha, update from … search. I agree on the latest legitimate name of Jacquemontia pentanthos

Jacquemontia sp. For ID Pune Most probably a planted one. J pentantha may be I agree although I prefer to use the epithet spelling J.pentanthos
This one is from a sapling vendor. He doesn’t know its name and called it as ‘creeper’. Of-course i am no better than him, even a couple of months ago all these were wild/garden herbs/shrubs to me!
