The genus Gynostemma Blume (CUCURBITACEAE) comprises about 10 to 19 species distributed in tropical Asia to E.Asia1. In India, it is represented by a single species2.

    Synonyms:Vitis pentaphylla Thunb.; Gynostemma pedatum Blume; G. simplicifolium Blume; G. pentaphyllum f. simplicifolium (Blume) W.J.de Wilde & Duyfjes; G. laxum (Wall.) Cogn.

    Distribution: Global: Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, Myanmar, India and Sri Lanka. In India, it is cultivated in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.
