(Unresolved); Portulacaria afra f. macrophylla H.Jacobsen; Portulacaria afra f. microphylla H.Jacobsen; Portulacaria afra f. variegata H.Jacobsen; Portulacaria portulacaria (L.) Graebn. [Invalid]); Porkbush, Elephants Food; ID request – 05072011PC1: Please identify this common shade plant. Shrub and succulent. Portulacaria afra Native of South Africa. In nature can grow tall to 10-12 feet. Family : Portulacaceae. I know this plant as dawrf / miniature Jade plant.. NOT RELATED BOTANICALLY to the “real” jade plant… Both make nice Bonsai habits, there in lies the rub… confusion… but look closely and the differential diagnosis is not so difficult… the bark is distinctly different and internodes etc etc… And if you the flowers once will never forget them… Crassula ovata puts on a spectacular show of masses of white flowers on green peduncles and the Portulacaria afra gets sparse small pink flowers on pink peduncles . Thanks …, you seem to be right.. And this is not a case for Crassulaceae, thanks for correcting.. …yes portulaca afra Mistakes happen because of the jade plant like leaves, succulent branches and stem (until a cork like bark develops) and names like baby jade plant… but its a Family: Portulacaceae makes a great bonsai plant too… its sap is therapeutic stuff for the irrigating sap of Euphorbia trigona Thank You very much for correction …, and for interesting information, I once became victim of the irritation by Euphorbia which persisted for 7-8 hours, I felt helpless…. So if you /// your lab had this portulaca afra near by its sap would have come in handy… god has created problems and given us antidotes too.. it never ceases to amaze me when I find such pairing in botany Crassulaceae, Combretaceae and Myrtaceae Fortnight: Succulent for identification 26 : 4 posts by 4 authors. Location: Kalimpong, WB, India Date: 15 May 2018 Altitude: 4100 ft. Habit : Cultivated Jade Sp. ?? Brought from Singapore. Leaves are very close to Portulacaria afra, a small-leaved succulent plant. This could be the variegated variety? this is variegated jade. a crassula. Not the portulaca the lightness is extreme variegation in the albinsation of the leaflets. Its not uncommon in succulents to go haywire in the lack of color google it and you will see many many extreme variegation in all kinds of succulents. TO DIFFERENTIATE between true variegation and grafting one needs full side view of the houseplant Any connection ??? Yes. I also agree for Portulacaria afra, may be Portulacaria afra ‘Medio-Variegata’ as per Thank you … for the ID validation. can plants be brought in thru customs from singopore. i thought special prior permission is needed usually colleges or tradesmen //nursery can do it. if a nursery brought it in., can i buy one plant from them?
