VoF Week: Drosera peltata from Ghangriya Govindghat route:

Drosera peltata from Ghangriya Govindghat route
pls validate
This was common in grass meadows there

Oh that is a good find.

very nice pictures
always gives me the creepies to think that this plants is a carnivore… but oh so pretty
ONE question… why does it seem to have a white flower bud at the very apex? or what is it?

Because that seems to be the only half open flower with white petals, the other three are flower buds and fifth lowest in fruit.

Very simple answer: because the plants grow among grasses and it needs the flower to be visible to to possible pollinators hence it needs to raise the flowers above grass height. Secondly, do you think if the flowers are close to the dangerous glands then insect will be able to pollinate before getting trapped?

It is my pleasure to share few images of Drosera peltata (Droseraceae)
Habit: insectivorous herb
Habitat: Amidst grass in montane forest..
Sighting: Mullaianagiri, Chikmagalur, Karnataka about 1700 msl
Date: 12-07-2015 and 23-07-2015.

very nice. where in relation to the insectivorous apparatus was this beautiful white (signifying purity and innocence) flower was in this otherwise blood thirsty plant. contradictions in mother nature abound… amazingly. so what i am sking do you have the whole plant  pic or the whole twig here the flower was growing from?

Wonderful flower closeup …!!
