As the names suggest, it is used for the treatment of rheumatic arthritis (hope .. has some interesting info on this too). This African plant is commonly planted as an avenue tree in many parts of India. It can be easily propagated by stem cuttings. – yes it is Delonix elata (L.) Gamble, Fl. Madras Pres. 396, 2929; Almeida, Fl. Mah. 2: 191 1998; Singh et al, Fl. Mah. St. 1: 803, 2000. Synonyms: Poinciana elata L., Cent. Pl. 2: 16, 1758; Baker in Hook.f., Fl. Brit. India 2: 260, 1878; Cooke, Fl. Pres. Bombay 1: 442, 1958 (Repr.) – Delonix alata. These trees are found in large numbers in Kokkare Bellur, the famous bird sanctuary near Maddur. Does it look like white variety of Delonix regia? Can it be Delonix elata? cant tell,,,, wish you had a pic of a fallen flower… Delonix elata for sure. Vaadha narayana or vatanarayana in Tamil. I was also believing it to be Delonix elata. There were 1 or 2 trees of this in Willingdon Sports Club, Mumbai a few years ago.

Delonix elata – White Gulmohar Tree – Vadanarayanan: 6+ 4 images. White Gulmohar is an erect tree, 6-10 m tall, with ash-colored bark. Leaves are 6-20 cm long, double-compound, like Gulmohar. Sidestalks are 4-8 pairs, 4-6 cm long, leaflets are l0-20 pairs, stalkless, linear- oblong, blunt, sometimes with slight point at the tip, narrowed towards the base, 7-15 mm long, 2-3 mm wide. Flowers are borne in racemes at the end of branches, the lower flower with the longest stalk, stalks hairy, up to 2.5-3 cm long. Sepals are 2-3 cm long, fused at the base, leathery, silky pubescent, oblong, narrow and sharp pointed. Flowers are white in the beginning, turning yellow, the upper petal is smaller and darker in colour, almost circular, curled at the margins, 2.5 cm long. Stamens are hairy, dark coloured, 5-10 cm long, thickened at the base. Pods are 12.5-20 cm long, 6-25 mm broad, smooth, narrow at both the ends, seeds 4-8. Within India, it is found wild in some parts of peninsular India and frequently planted as an avenue tree. Flowering: All year    Delonix elata: I have seen white by itself… but on that tree the red /orange was not there.. is this unique? to have both colors on the same twig?
