Pod ovoid, ellipsoid or rhomboid, 7-9×4.5 cm , winged, obliquely plaited on both faces, densly clothed with rusty irritant bristles, 1-seeded, seeds rounded, slightly compressed, dark brown, smooth, shining.
And Fortunately or unfortunately i hv experienced with both species pod M.pruriens n M.monosperma at my farm (Pune region) !! Skin touch experience was unforgotable n horrible ever !! 🙂

Very rare in Eastern Ghats and distributed from E. himalayas, Khasi, Assam, W.peninsula, Myanmar and Sri Lanka
Flowers of M. monosperma are nearly white when they bloom at night and get a bluish tinge when they mature sunsequently. Flowers of M. pruriens are deep blue all along. Besides pods of former have only one seed while the latter has many seeds. The habitat is different, evergreen forest for former and deciduous forest for the latter.

Its climber same as M. pruriens, one will find hard to differentiate if not in fruiting,, its rare in hill station in Konkan.. This is the only photograph available with me. Let me go thru my old collection and see if i can get some more pics. I have one picture with structure similar to this photographed near Wilderness resort Belgaon-Goa road. (March 2006) Hopefully it appears to be same Yes … this is also Mucuna monosperma. Id of a fruit: … most probably the negro bean, Mucuna monosperma (family: Fabaceae). I second its a Mucuna monosperma !! Mucuna monosperma Yes Mucuna monosperma Thanx everybody. Wenever d Pod of Mucuna comes in contact with skin, immediately iching is started over there, so that local people named it as Khaj-khujali / Khaj-kuiri !!

I have seen a dermatology book that talks of Farmers getting allergic responses to some vigna leaves, apparently they have some secretion on the tips of their hairs… The climber was right near the steps of “Palasambe Caves” and a local person warned us about its itching property, so we stayed away from it and didn’t dare to touch it. (By the way, also saw side by side the climber of huge Entada pod ( गारंबी) at the same place.) Mucuna pruriens and M. monosperma are neither confused nor mistaken . The foremer has a long pod and the latter has somewhat round pods Thanks … for elaborating your sighting. Many thanks … for the clarity among the two pods.
…, the word पांढरी (meaning white coloured) must have some reasoning while it was assigned to this M. monosperma – one case could be just to logically separate the two plants. Perhaps, some aspect of M. monosperma is “whiter” (read “brighter”) than the M. pruriens. It could be just any aspect like stem, leaf, bud, flower, seed OR even the root.
Those familiar with this colour logic may help us out.
