Quercus baloot : 7 posts by 2 authors. Attachments (31) I found the rare Q. baloot in the Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh. This might be the easternmost natural range of the species. There I observed two forms, one shrubby form (1.8m) with spiny leaf margin growing at higher altitude and the tree form (5-10m) with non-spiny margin at the lower altitude. Both forms mix at 2577m (8,454ft). I am also attaching some photographs which were taken in Kalpa, Kinnaur, Himachal Pradesh, India in June 2018.
Photo 1 to 4: Comparison between shrubby and tree form.
Photo 5 to 12: Tree form with toothless margin.
Photo 13: A mix of Pinus gernadiana and Quercus baloot forest near Karcham dam, Kinnaur, Himachal Pradesh.
Photo 14 to 31: Shrubby form with toothed margin.
Also, the species is not listed on the flowersofindia website. I hope this will be useful for others.
