Shrubs, about 1-1.5 m tall. Stem erect, stout, branched, terete, glabrous. Leaves simple, opposite, decussate, narrow lanceolate to narrow lanceolate-oblong, about 20-55 x 5-15 mm across, base subcordate to subamplexicaul, margins entire or recurved, apex deeply acute to acuminate, leaf lamina contain obscurely pellucid punctate glands mostly undulating, almost absent beneath, chartaceous, subcoriaceous, green glabrous above and paler glaucous beneath, midrib impressed above and prominent beneath, lateral veins about 2-3 on either side of the midrib, veinlets very faint, obscure, petiole sessile or subsessile, exstipulate. Inflorescence 5-12 flowered terminal cymes or subcorymbs or pseudoumbellate. Flowers bisexual, actinomorphic, about 3-6 cm across, pedicel about 1-2 cm long, bracts lanceolate, foliaceous, margins glandular ciliate, sparsely punctate with black glands, apex acute, about 5.5-12 x 1.5-3 mm across, caducous, sepals 5, lanceolate-ovate to elliptic, chartaceous, glandular punctate with black glands, persistent, apex acute, about 9.5-13 x 2.5-4 mm across, petals 5, narrow oblanceolate-obovate, yellow or bright yellow, veined prominently, punctate with raised glands, persistent, about 12-25 x 6-10 mm across. Stamens 15-20, in bundles or fascicles 5, free, antisepals, filaments linear, filiform, glabrous, about 9-12 mm long, anthers dorsifixed, yellow or reddish, connectives with usually with black amber gland. Ovary superior, globose, 3 locular, syncarpus, about 4.5-6 mm long, ovules many, axil placentation, styles 3, free from the base, erect, about 3.5-6 mm long, stigma 3, capitate. Fruit capsule septicidal, ovoid-obovoid, about 9-13 x 7-10 mm long, apex obtuse, longitudinally vittate, with persistent style. Seeds numerous, oblong, about 0.8 mm long, apiculate on both the ends, testa reticulate-scalariform, brown, embryo slender, erect.

Hypericum podocarpoides N.Robson is a less common species in Uttarakhand. In fact it is an endemic of Kumaon and Nepal.

Sharing some pictures I guess is Hypericum podocarpoides N. Robson shot on the way to Kulekhani Nepal on 10 August 2013 at 5200 ft.
