very nice. not only is the bud unique, the leaves among magnolias have unique surface undulations am glad you have so many friends who let you come to their gardens and photograph. we are the richer for it

From where did you get this name ?
I tried finding details on net, but there was hardly anything in terms of images and illustrations.
I could only find some gbif specimens, which did not match.
Also did not find its distribution in this region as per WCSP and Catalogue of life.
If it would have been in cultivation, there would have been lots of details on net.
On visiting comparative images at Magnolia, I find these close to images at Magnolia pterocarpa with distribution in our area.
Pl. check and confirm.

Enclosing references.

ALSO THERE IS ONE ATLEAST THAT I HAVE SEEN AND REPHOTOGRAPHED IN CALCUTTA AT HOME OF ONE OUR OLDER MEMBERS. I AM BLANKING HIS NAME. HIS GRANDFATHER HAD BROUGHT IN A FEW TREES SAPLINGS OF MAGNOLIA FROM UPSTATE WEST BENGAL MANY MANY YEARS AGO, MOST LIKELY dARJEELING OR SILIGURI. JUST REMEMBERED THE REASON I HAD GONE THERE WAS TO SEE HIS MAGNOLIA GRANDIFLORA TREE
THAT HE HAD SUBMITTED TO INDIATREEPIX MAGNOLIA GRANDIFLORA FROM KOLKATA
AND HE SHOWED ME THE MAGNOLIA WITH EGG SHAPED BUDS
JUST REMEMBERED HIS NAME IS DR. K S RAY
THESE ARE LEAVES. AND ONE FLOWER BUD ABOUT TO OPEN  I HAVE IT IN MY FILES AS MAGNOLIA LILLIFERA

is this from the tub of the plant you showed above?
