Plant name: Decaschistia rufa Craib, Bull. Misc. Inform. Kew 1912: 35. 1912.
Family: Malvaceae
Description:
Erect shrubs 0.5-1m tall; densely appressed with white or brown stellate-tomentum. Leaves alternate; petiole 1-3cm long; 6-10 × 5-7cm, ovate-cordaate, base sub-cordate, margin entire or shallowly serrate, basally 5-nerved, thick. Flowers creamy yellow, 4-5 cm across, obliquely ovate, solitary, axillary . Bracteoles 10, in 2 rows, acute, free. Sepals acute 2-2.5cm long. Corolla creamy yellow, lobes 5, obovate, connate at base with staminal column; inner base of petals, and staminal column maroon. Stamens many, throughout the stamina tube. Ovary 10 loculed, 1ovule in each locule, style divided at top into 10 branches, stigma capitate. Capsule pubescent, depressed globose, 0.8-1.2cm across; seeds reniform, sparsely pubescent, black.
Habitat & location: Rare. Endemic to E.ghats. In hill side deciduous forests Photographed at S.R.Puram- Porumaamilla ghat.
