Habit- Large trees up to 28 m tall. Trunk\bark- Bark brown, large flaky or exfoliating; blaze outer bark red and inner cream.
Branchlets- Young branchlets slender, terete, tawny pubescent and stellate hairy.
Leaves- Leaves simple, alternate, distichous; stipules lateral, with two linear subulate appendages, densely stellate tomentose, caducous; petiole ca. 0.1 cm long, terete, stellate tomentose; lamina 4.5-10 x 1.5-3 cm, narrow oblong-lanceolate, apex acuminate, base asymmetric often subpeltate, margin entire, chartaceous, tawny pubescent and stellate hairy; midrib flat above; 3-nerved at base; secondary nerves 5-7 pairs, ascending; tertiary nerves reticulo-percurrent.
Flowers- Flowers white, solitary, axillary; pedicels up to 0.5 cm long.
Fruit & seed- Capsule brown, 5-angled, 5 x 1.3 cm, glabrous; seeds winged at one end.
Canopy trees in evergreen forests up to 900 m.
Endemic to the Western Ghats- South and Central Sahyadris (up to Coorg Region).

how did you know the name so quickly? i am still trying I had got some saplings from Mssrf, Wayanad, from which the labels went missing after pIanting. I did however have a list of the names and by googling them found the right match. great. so how big are the saplings now and how long since you planted them? Planted them about 3 years ago. They have grown about 6′ to 8′. .
