Plant growing in wild, arid area outskirts of bangalore.
Large shrub, about 9 ft high, arching stems, grey , with spines about 1 to 1.5″ long.
Leaves leathery glabrous, shiny. look like Ficus, flowers (male ) capitulum, flowering in November

Plant with female flowers or fruit not seen.

It is Plecospermum spinosum (= Maclura spinosa).
Traditional healers in Tiruvannamalai district (TN) use the latex to treat toothache.

Uneven fruit size.

Habit: A very woody Straggler
Key: Axillary buds modified into thorns, latex present
Leaves: Simple, Elliptic, Glabrous, with an acuminate apex
Inflorescence: Umbellate head (Probably)
Fruits: Syncarp, Similar to Morinda citrifolia( But very smaller in size)


Looks like Plecospermum spinosum (Moraceae, the fig family). An armed, woody climber with arching branches. Sap white, milky.
