Bougainvillea spectabilis, also known as great bougainvillea,[1] is a species of flowering plant. It is native to Brazil, Bolivia, Peru, and Argentina‘s Chubut Province.[2][3] Bougainvillea spectabilis grows as a woody vine or shrub, reaching 15 to 40 feet (4.6 to 12.2 m)[4][5] with heart-shaped leaves and thorny, pubescent stems.[5] The flowers are generally small, white, and inconspicuous, highlighted by several brightly colored modified leaves called bracts. The bracts can vary in color, ranging from white, red, mauve, purple-red, or orange. Its fruit is a small, inconspicuous, dry, elongated achene.[3][5]
Bougainvillea spectabilis is native to Brazil, Peru, Bolivia, and Chubut Province, Argentina, but it has been introduced in many other areas.[3]
Bougainvillea spectabilis can grow in hardiness zones 10-11, preferring full sun , dry conditions, and fertile soil.[5] It can be propagated from stem and root cuttings.[3]
Bougainvillea spectabilis has been reported to have anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-tumor, anti-hypercholestrolemic, anti-hyperlipidemic, and anti-fertility properties. The Yanadi tribe of Chittoor district, Andhra Pradesh, India, once used the leaves of Bougainvillea spectabilis to heal diabetes. The plant is also widely grown as an ornamental plant.[3]

How do we propagate them? I have Photos of about 7 colours. Is this an Oxygen-giving Shrub? Bougainvillea can be very easily propagated by cuttings. Pruning of the plant is in any case necessary during the rainy season. Take some cuttings of old branch, pencil length, and a little thicker than that of a normal pencil, as thick as checking pencil. Use some root hormone. It roots easily; the success rate is fairly high.
Let us see the photographs you have. If they are already on the net , please let me know the link. I don’t know much about the oxygen giving quality of this climber. Probably some member may enlighten. I think B. spectabilis if you are sure that it is Bougainvillea spectibilis? I have been trying to find stable differences between B. glabra and B. spectabilis. The only reliable feature I find is the tips of showy involucre bracts to be obtuse (acute in B. glabra), longer thorns and pubescent flowers (latter features are not clear in photographs). which rooting hormone is best?
